Description
Second Aider is the innovation in first aid. In Germany, only a fraction of people are able to provide professional first aid in an emergency. In the future, our AR gadget will remove the barriers to first aid and save lives.
A large part of the project involved thinking about future scenarios. We looked at trends in new technological developments and used these to sketch out new products in a research and experimental way. To do this, we reversed the usual design process.
We designed future scenarios and analyzed them using methods and models such as the Future Wheel or the Future Cone. Subsequently, we adapted the emerging technology to create a solution for an identified problem.

Statistical and market research has shown us that there is a niche in the field of first aid where there is an urgent need for improvement in order to save more lives in the future and fulfil the duty of first aid.

First aider arrives at accident scene
The first responder takes immediate action and secures the scene of the accident as appropriate.

The first aider starts using the second aider contained in the standardised first aid kit for cars
The Second Responder helps to facilitate the start of first aid at a point where many first responders would otherwise give up due to lack of knowledge.

Standalone emergency call and data recording
The first responder is connected to the dispatch centre while the device records and transmits further data in the background. This includes documentation of injuries and location data

AI-assisted first aid instructions
An AI system provides step-by-step instructions on how to provide first aid, based on the data previously transmitted. This enables case-specific action to be taken.
The whole process takes place via the AR audio-visual interface.

Interfacing between first responders and emergency medical services
The first responder is provided with live information on the status of arriving emergency services.
In addition, the product has the potential to transmit health data recorded by the device and documented action steps to emergency personnel, providing added value in terms of communication and determining further treatment.

Hospital
A seamless process, starting with the first emergency measures in the rescue chain, can potentially be extended to hospitalisation and medical treatment.
